L.I.T. GROUP AND CAPTRAIN FOUND JOINT VENTURE FOR INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION

Intermodal transport and logistics solutions from a single source: with this aim in mind, we founded the joint venture SmartRail Logistics together with the rail logistics company Captrain Deutschland GmbH. One of the first major customers is a well-known automobile manufacturer. The joint venture has been supplying its Emden plant with vehicle parts by rail since 2018.

There are three trains per week from Dresden to Emden and save around 100 truck trips. »With SmartRail Logistics we offer our customers multimodal integrated transport solutions. The company controls the entire door to door supply chain«, explains Simeon Breuer, Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH. The innovative cooperation between carrier and rail in a joint company not only reduces the number of necessary processes and interfaces, it also creates a highly efficient transport network.

This reorganization of freight transport has a lot more advantages: Firstly, partial loading by rail is more environmentally friendly than pure road transport. And secondly, the efficiency of the transport increases, because the law allows four tons more goods to be transported in combined transport than in pure road haulage

Fokke Fels, CEO of L.I.T. and Henrik Würdemann, managing director of Captrain, presented this idea of a freight corridor from Dresden right to Emden factory plant at the »Innovationstag Logistik« of Volkswagen that takes place annually and received the multiyear contract as well as the innovation award »From day one we advanced this project collaboratively.
