L.I.T. SUPPORTS FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN BY ELVIS AG

While attending primary school is part of everyday life for children in Germany, the situation is more difficult in other countries. In East African Tanzania, for example, there are only 18 public primary schools for nearly 26,000 children. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that many buildings are dilapidated and inadequately equipped, have poor sanitary facilities, and lack sufficient desks and books. Furthermore, there is a shortage of teaching staff.

One example is the Kagonda Primary School in the Izigo region. Almost 500 children attend school there, 78 of whom have physical or mental disabilities. With only eight classrooms, which are also not barrier-free, the conditions are more than poor. In addition, there are only 152 desks available for learning. To improve the situation and facilitate access to education for the local boys and girls, the Europäischer Ladungs-Verbund Internationaler Spediteure AG (elvis) is collecting donations for this primary school in this year's fundraising campaign.

The plan includes three barrier-free classrooms, each with 60 desks and six bookshelves. In addition to the construction measures, training sessions for the school committee and local teachers are also on the agenda. They are to be sensitized to child protection. As a sustainable transport and logistics company, it is important to us to take social responsibility, which is why we are supporting this campaign again this year. "In Tanzania, by no means all residents have access to educational institutions – and those that are available are often inadequately equipped," explains Fokke Fels, CEO of L.I.T. AG, regarding the background.

The project, which was financed in 2018 with our donation and those of other elvis members, has just been successfully completed. A maternity ward was built in Tanzania, which improves healthcare for women and newborns. At the same time, qualified specialists informed the local population about topics such as family planning and newborn health.
