L.I.T. AG TAKES OVER WESTFALIA INTRALOG

GOAL: EXPLOIT SYNERGIES IN JUMBO SWAP BODY LOGISTICS

Simeon Breuer (l.), Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH as well as Member of the Executive Board of L.I.T. AG, and Dirk Schröder, Managing Director of WESTFALIA intralog GmbH.

WESTFALIA intralog GmbH has recently started sailing under the L.I.T. flag. The former subsidiary of SULO Deutschland GmbH has been part of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH since 1 August 2021. With the acquisition by the Lower Saxony logistics service provider, the two transport companies want to pool their resources in the swap body business. WESTFALIA intra-log continues to operate under its own name and with its proven team as an independent business unit of the L.I.T. Group. The cooperation with the SULO Group remains within the framework of a multi-year contract.

»WESTFALIA intralog is ideally positioned for swap body transports – just like us – and therefore enhances our portfolio perfectly,« says Simeon Breuer, Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH and Member of the Executive Board of L.I.T. AG. Dirk Schröder, Managing Director of WESTFALIA intralog GmbH, also sees a perfect match in the two companies: »By using synergy effects, together with L.I.T. we have considerable clout in the area of swap body logistics.«

WESTFALIA intralog was founded in 1983 as the internal shipping department of the former SULO Eisenwerke GmbH & Co. KG and has since undergone a remarkable development. The logistics company from Herford began acquiring external customers as early as 1984 and developed into one of the leading providers of jumbo swap body logistics in Germany over the subsequent decades. At the last count, WESTFALIA intralog employed 77 people at five locations: in Essen, Lohr am Main, Tettau (Upper Franconia), in Momignies (Hainaut Province) in Belgium and in Herford.

According to Schröder, the decision to separate from the SULO Group was considered to make strategic sense by both sides. The spin-off from the waste disposal company would open up new development opportunities for the freight forwarder and allow it to refocus on its core competence – logistics. »WESTFALIA intralog has reached a point where the resources of a pioneering freight forwarder like L.I.T. promise to give us new impetus,« says Schröder. The transport company’s approximately 1,000 swap bodies will supplement the L.I.T. Group’s current inventory, which is already twice as large. The cooperation with SULO Germany, which has already lasted 38 years, will be seamlessly continued within the framework of a multi-year contract.
